| This month’s custom package is the most exciting ever featured in American Handgunner! The talented trio of Ted Yost, Jason Burton and Steve Bailey have moved into the next evolution of custom pistolsmithing. Their shop, now called “Heirloom Precision, LLC” (previously “Yost-Bonitz”) specializes in high-end, custom 1911s and Browning Hi-Powers. Their work is elegant and sublime, easily ranking among the top tiny handful of custom shops. The featured pistol, by craftsman Jason Burton, showcases their almost minimalist work. Just as one of Mozart’s pieces has just the “right” number of notes, the same can be said of Jason’s. And to really understand the magic of Heirloom Classics, you have to handle the gun. All the parts a 1911 needs are here, mated with a level of fit that cause you to wonder how humans can manage such things by hand. The custom serial number: YB KR AH 07 stands for Yost/Burton, Kirk Rexroat, American Handgunner and 2007 (the year it was completed). Simply stunning work. There’s only one thing to match this Damascus 1911 wonder and that’s Master Bladesmith Kirk Rexroat’s custom Damascus Bowie. At 14" over-all, with an 8" blade, Kirk’s work features the graceful lines only a true master can find in the steel. Remember, this is a hand-forged knife done in the manner only the best swords and knives have been made for a thousand years. A magical blade for a memorable pistol! The custom leather by John Ralston of 5-Shot Leather shows the quality touches his mentor, Lou Alessi, taught John.
