Starting with a frame and slide duo from the well-respected firm of Caspian, pistolsmiths at US Shooting go the long way, taking their time to craft a handgun much more than simply the sum of it’s many high quality parts. From the Alumagrips (which will protect your hands in the event of a case rupture), the integral plunger tube (which will never loosen), the Caspian “Speedbump” safety, and the Novak Extreme Duty tree dot tritium sights, the GP incorporates virtually every feature a tough-duty defensive or combat handgun should have. Critical parts are made up of first-tier makers like STI, Ed Brown and others. This is an elegantly functional handgun which manages neatly to do what so many often strive for and miss — deliver on the promises they make.

An exciting part of this self-defense trio is a custom defensive/utility knife from Greyman Knives called the Dinka. With a blade length of 4" and an overall length of 8", this 1/4" thick cutter is a mini-bruiser and comes with a micarta handle and two kydex sheaths. This double bevel spear-point back-up knife fits neatly on your belt, boot or about anywhere. Greyman knives are rough, rugged and just-plain tough. Mike, the maker, says he offers the “Russian T-34 tank finish” on his knives. They aren’t beautiful — but they work.
