COVER STORY:
SPRINGFIELD’S
XD .45 ROBAR STYLE
Sammy Reese |

|

If you haven’t had the pleasure of putting your hands on one of Robbie Barrkman’s creations you really need to. Aside from feeling great in the hand, everything he touches ends up looking like a piece of art.
Robbie is the He-Man behind Robar Guns, internationally known for making the creme-de-la-creme of sniper rifles. Robar has also set the bar for polymer-frame grip modifications as well as custom gun work. Robbie told me he actually gets several calls a month from people asking how he does his grip modifications. He tells them to send him their gun and he will do it for them.

TURKISH DELIGHT
The ArmaLite AR-24
Charles E. Petty
If you poll devoted 9mm fans you will find a substantial number who believe the CZ-75 is the greatest thing since sliced bread and also an excellent service pistol. I think it is fair to say it was the first widely successful double-action, high-capacity 9mm and, even though it held lots of bullets, it felt good and its ergonomic and mechanical features appealed to both civilian and military users. To this day the grip is one of the most comfortable of the high-cap pistols.

THE MODEL 29 IS BACK!
Hopefully To Stay
John Taffin
If Colt’s 1st Generation Single Action Army .45 had been built with a frame as large as today’s Ruger Blackhawk .45 there may never have been a .44 Magnum. Elmer Keith always wanted a little more out of a sixgun and when he was in his mid-20s all he had to work with were old black powder Colt Single Actions. On the Fourth of July in 1925 he blew the top of the cylinder and the top-trap on a .45 Colt and looked for a stronger sixgun/cartridge combination. There was only one choice available and that was the .44 Special. Had the Colt had a larger cylinder and frame he probably would have never blown one and stayed with a .45 the rest of his life.

10 THINGS THAT MAKE A TACTICAL KNIFE
Info From An Insider
Ernest Emerson
What is a Tactical Knife? Every Company seems to make them. Everyone seems to carry them or do they?
I’ve heard some people (knife makers/knife companies) say there’s no difference between a “Regular” knife and a “Tactical” knife. I ask them, “Is there a difference between a Combat Handgun and a Regular handgun?” Damn right there is! But unless you know what those differences are, you probably can’t tell the difference. It has a barrel, a grip and it shoots like every other gun. However, there are differences to the educated or experienced, these subtleties can literally spell the difference between life and death. There’s also a similar difference between a “Tactical” knife and a “Regular” knife.

D&L SPORTS 1911
The Professional’s “Professional”
Massad Ayoob
From Iraq to Afghanistan, the current conflict has validated the 1911 .45 automatic. Those who have them there cherish them. Those who don’t have them, for the most part, want them. Some want them badly enough to pay for the very best. Built for combat, Dave Lauck’s latest is smooth, accurate and utterly reliable.
Master smith Dave Lauck built the gun we tested for just such an individual. A street cop for decades, holding SWAT responsibilities for much of that time, Dave has ample “been there, done that” creds. An active teacher of the gun and host of high-level competitions, he has ample venues in which to monitor testing of the custom guns that have become his avocation through D&L Sports. The gun tested here is his Professional Model, which he created based on requests from special forces personnel involved at the sharp end of the current War on Terror.

Aimed In A NEW Direction
The SIG Sauer P250
Mark Hanten
SIG's P250 is a new type of pistol and one that’s certain to change the way many view handgun ownership. It brings modular firearm design to a whole new level thus making it the most versatile handgun available.
The P250’s original European introduction in 2004 by SIG’s counterpart there, JP Sauer & Son, was in 9x19mm Parabellum with plans for .357 SIG, .40 S&W and .45 ACP to come later that year. When the process stalled in Europe, SIGARMS’ (the US company) President & CEO sent their lead design engineer, Ethan Lessard, to Germany for collaboration. Eventually, it was decided SIGARMS would complete design work here in the US and production would be done at their Exeter, New Hampshire factory. All four calibers of the P250 should be available before too long. This puts a big exclamation mark on SIG’s long-term commitment to the military and law enforcement. Its features and characteristics make it exceptionally well suited for issuance at the organizational/institutional level more on this later.
